In order to separate the SkySQL specific initialization steps more clearly I outsourced everything in a dedicated file skysql-specific-startup.sh which will be called if the environment variable SKYSQL_INITIALIZATION is set to 1.
With these changes we are able to startup and configure the ColumnStore cluster in k8s.
