Thank you for the detailed report.
There are no functional issues. Power BI Mashup Engine is doing its job by generating generic SQL statements disregarding database engine-specific nuances.
1. INT(11)
Int(11) is not seen as an Integer by powerbi, therefor all int(11) will be casted to integer in the query
INT(11) is a synonym for INTEGER and INT in MariaDB. Number 11 in this case defines the display width of the integer data type. It supports the ZEROFILL non-standard MySQL and MariaDB enhancement.
Because INT(11), INT and INTEGER as synonyms there is no performance overhead when doing CAST('day' as INTEGER). Power BI is unaware of INT(11), hence the cast.
In Power BI User Interface, all INT(11) columns are identified as Data Type: Whole Number, so it is seen by Power BI as integer, in fact.
Quick fix: Changed my int(11) to a double
There is no need to change INT(11) with DOUBLE. It unnecessarily doubles the storage size for your data (INT is 4 bytes, DOUBLE is 8 bytes), which is likely to degrade query performance.
Recommendation: keep INT in your DDL statements, and never mind Power BI Mashup Engine-generated CAST('columnname' AS INTEGER).
2. DATE and DATETIME
Date is not seen as a DateTime by powerbi, therefor all dates will be casted to datetime
The first part is not quite correct. In Power BI User Interface, DATE columns are seen as Data Type: Date columns, which is different from DATETIME columns that are seens as Data Type: Date/Time - see the screenshots (the table was created using your SQL statement, no data transformations have been applied in Power BI):

Power BI may convert all dates to datetime but it does not do it all the time.
Converting date to datetime is a known Power BI issue discussed on Community Forums. Power BI does the conversion when there is a possibility that the user might start comparing DATE and DATETIME values. In DAX, Date format is DateTime only set to midnight.
As you start building your report, you may notice that some SQL queries generated by Power BI do not convert to DATETIME.
Here is a simple report with four columns from your dim_date column in a table visual in Power BI and the SQL query (recovered from Diagnostic Logs) that Power BI generated does not convert the datedate column:

Thus, there is no need to change your DATE to a DATETIME in your table definition in MariaDB.
Recommendation: keep you DATE columns.
3. Here i asume the full table will be copied to to a TMP table making the queries heavier and slower.

Hello all,
I recently started to use mariadb columnstore in combination with powerbi. I am a bit new with both so i just hope i am doing something wrong here and the issue could be easily solved.
I am using powerbi with mariadb in directquery mode.

Quick fix: Changed my int(11) to a double Change my date to a datetime.
