πŸŽ₯ Type Visualizers / Inspectors via Yousef El-Dardiry

🧡 conversation

Somewhat inspired by Moldable Development I started experimenting with custom Type Visualizers / inspectors in a notebook environment. Using Type Visualizers, you can β€œextend” the notebook environment to make it easier to visualize / inspect variables of certain types.

As the notebook is Typescript based I hooked into the TS system to implement this. Eventually I’d like visualizers to be shareable in a β€œplugin directory”.

Looking fwd to hearing your thoughts! What would you find this useful for?

Our Work

πŸŽ™ Hest β€” The Podcast via Ivan Reese

🧡 conversation

πŸ“‘ I have a new project to share with you: Hest β€” The Podcast

What's Hest? It's my own personal FoC project, and I'll be using this new podcast to explore the design of it in great depth. The podcast is inspired by early episodes of the Future of Coding podcast, in which Steve recapped his research with a style that felt to me a little like daydreaming. I enjoyed those episodes very much, and have wanted to do something similar ever since I took over Steve's show. I've come up with my own twist on the format that should make it even more enjoyable and useful. Episodes will be brief, frequent, and light. There are already 6 episodes in the feed, so that you can try it out for a bit to see if you enjoy it before deciding to subscribe on an ongoing basis. The primary audience is... myself β€” this is an audio sketchbook. But I think some of you will find it interesting too.

To subscribe,

This might not appeal to many people, but for those to whom it does, I sincerely hope you enjoy it.

Thinking Together

πŸ’¬ Rob Haisfield

🧡 conversation

Could someone create a web browser or browser extension that just adds bidirectional links navigation, filtering, and querying to the web more broadly? Any reason that can’t just be layered on top of URLs already existing on the web?

A question for people knowledgeable in smalltalk: Can you send a smalltalk image to another smalltalk image as an object? How would that look like?

πŸ’» MightyApp via Scott Anderson

🧡 conversation

What do folks here think about MightyApp ? There is an extreme schism between web/startup people (who mostly like it but have some privacy concerns) and game developers (who universally hate it) going on

Which programming systems other than Smalltalk/Lisp Machines do you know about?

Very un-thought out idea πŸ™‚. I’ve noticed over time that I’m an extremely visual programmer. However, most current attempts at visual programming are bad and or incomplete IMO. Something that might be nearer our current abilities and practicality would be creating a really stupid simple toolkit that allows the interfaces of code to be played with. e.g. some namespace that filters a user list

πŸ” Programmable Space via Mariano Guerra

🧡 conversation

In a programmable space, the concept of a computer is expanded outside a little rectangular screen. Interacting with a programmable space means using physical objects, not virtual ones on a screen. Bringing computing to the scale of a room makes it a communal and social experience.

I don't expect this to actually happen with the players involved, but it's actually an interesting proposal. A standard node definition also has a lot of interesting ramifications for folks outside of 3D DCC apps that are interested in audio or visual scripting more broadly

🐦 Delaney King πŸ‘‰πŸ»πŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸ’»: So, I would love to gather together a group of developers from @unity3d, @Blender, @Unreal, @Substance3D and their plug devs and talk about developing a unified node graph behaviour standard to better serve the world game development community.
