Animated GIF base image #230

There's a bug with Magento it self. Concerns animated gif images used for
base images in a product.

Magento seems to have a sort of a bug on the subject. After an animated
.gif image is uploaded and assigned as a base image to a product, M creates
and puts a non-animated version of the image in the cache folder. This is
the image that actually appears in the front end (product page).

I found this solution for the bug:
http://www.magentocommerce.com/boards/viewthread/6517/

Got the thing working by manually replacing the image in the cache folder
after it is created - Just like the people in the forum suggested:

My question is:
Is this the only way it can be done? I'm about to add a section in our help
post explaining this workaround. Before I do this, I wanna make sure we're
not posting lame solution instead of a more valid/stable/professional one.
If there's a better way around this, please let me know.

Do we still have this problem or was this solved?

Just tested it again. Problem remains.
Since this is a Magento bug and is not related to our extension, I just needed
someone to look into it and let me know if the workaround I found is a
valid/descent one and if it's OK to explain it in our help post that way.
Didn't want to post a lame solution to a common Magento problem if there's a
better solution out there.

OK
The task now is to see if there is a better solution.

Just close this one.
It's been way to long and I see it is not a valid solution since the image is
no longer animated.
M. probably made it static during an upgrade or smth.
