other co-occurrences:
Another (and much larger) source of co-occurrences is this food web that has been pubished on in nature.
The food web describes predator-prey and parasite-host links between ~1000 species in the kelp forests of California.
Explore the way two (or more) taxa interact.
Maggie Brisbin suggested a possible example: phytoplankton (phayocystis) + various symbiotic species. These plankton species shoud have high rates of co-occurrance.
A different example suggested by Maggie is the case of phayocystis replacing diatoms in Massachusetts. In this case we expect to see a decline in one as the other increases in occurrence.
This analysis may synergize well with #2, and seems more straightforward.
