An idea regarding the thematic design: a list (grid?) of themes could be provided near the regional map (see #34). Selecting one could highlight the regional MBONs that are relevant for that theme. EG clicking on "plankton" would highlight only MBONs with plankton data.

This would be easier/harder to implement depending on the choice of tech for #34. Using D3/infographiq would be easy.

The following mockup shows one way to approach representing the thematic components alongside the regional components.

In this view the AP MBON has been clicked on and so the details of that regional MBON are shown in the regional info area to the right of the map. Additionally, the eDNA icon has been selected so the details of eDNA are shown below in the thematic info area. Another result of the eDNA selection is that the icon representing eDNA is shown on the locations of the map that have eDNA.
