I think since svn revision 1510 there are command line options -ss and -endpos 
like in mplayer to view a part of a video only. 

What I am missing is a way to create a playlist with different starting and end 
positions for each video via the graphical interface. So it would be nice if 
there would be a column "start" (time in hh:mm:ss) and similarly a column "end" 
in the playlist window, so that you could directly enter starting end end 
positions. 

If a video V from the playlist in use, is active (i.e. playing, pause or 
fast-forward), there should occur two buttons S and E with the following 
functionality: If you press S in the playlist entry for V the starting position 
changes to the current position, analogously for E for the end position.
