Not sure if it's possible, but would be way easier than going all the way back to desktop mode just to review footage

No idea how to do that. I recommend setting up an SSH based system for browsing your files remotely (I use an app called CX File Explorer on my phone). Another alternative is using the Deck MTP plugin.
