@mark-gerarts This is an untested suggestion for issue #9 . Feel free to adopt it to your needs (my time is a little limited right now).

Hi @mschop, thanks for your effort, especially since you're short on time! Your solution seems to work without any problems. I added some basic tests and refactored the code a bit, so it's ready to be merged. Thanks again!
