I want to update core from 8.4.5 to 8.5.0? What is the best way to do that? Should I go with the normal procedure?

I have an issue for that which is handled in a separate branch of the installation profile. You could include this branch temporarily. Please see: https://github.com/markaspot/mark-a-spot/issues/68

This can be closed since 8.4.1 which includes Drupal 8.5.1
