mentions the zero issue:
Louviere, J. J., & Flynn, T. N. (2010). Using Best-Worst Scaling Choice Experiments to Measure Public Perceptions and Preferences for Healthcare Reform in Australia. The Patient: Patient-Centered Outcomes Research, 3(4), 275–283. doi:10.2165/11539660-000000000-00000
says:
Non-zero counts can be obtained by
expanding the BWS choice data in various ways,
as discussed by Louviere et al.[11]
which is:
Louviere JJ, Street DJ, Burgess L, et al. Modelling the choices of single individuals by combining efficient choice experiment designs with extra preference information. J Choice Model 2008; 1 (1): 128-63
but can't see how it is relevant at the moment
Theoretical properties unknown atm. After a few email conversations with BW researchers, it appears as though the way around the 0 counts is replacing it with an arbitrary number (.01, .1, 1, etc). Might give that a try.
not implementing
unsure how to handle zero counts at the moment
