Potential New Issue (caused by new Python 3.12 build) #37

Hello everyone,

One of Numpy's dependencies that NRSC5-DUI uses "distutils" is no longer available for use in Python 3.12 (Python 3.11 and below is unaffected) Here's the log proving this:

pauld@Pauls-Air nrsc5-dui-master-3 % pip3 install numpy==1.25.1 Collecting numpy==1.25.1 Using cached numpy-1.25.1.tar.gz (10.4 MB) Installing build dependencies ... done Getting requirements to build Trying to install distutils manually also does not work. Though I realize it may not be fixable at the moment, it might be useful to note it in README.md that Python 3.12 may break the application entirely and to use Python 3.11. Hopefully this whole numpy issue will be fixed soon.

So Homebrew completely blew up my Python install today, relinking all my 3.11 hooks to 3.12. What a mess.

Turns out it's more than just this. Several packages have to be installed outside of pip3 in v3.12. Once you get past the distutils issue, then you have problems with Python Dateutil, urllib3, pyOpenSSL (which also needs crytography and cffi), and musicbrainzngs. Tried just copying those (and their related parts) over from 3.11's site-packages folder, deleting all the cached folders thinking they might rebuild correctly, but still had plenty of issues.

Best solution at this point is to specifically call python3 using the path to 3.11, instead of relying on the path hierarchy. On Macs that would be something like: /opt/homebrew/bin/python3.11 nrsc5-dui.py /usr/local/bin/

I should add that just uninstalling Python3.12 isn't a solution if you use anything with gnu-radio - it's a dependency.
