Unambiguous gene names #2

Gene symbols are convenient for pathway analysis but they can change over time, meaning that some genes are erroneously omitted from downstream analysis.

A better approach would be to begin with the unique array probe number and map it to an updated database of gene symbols, then it can be matched with an updated database of gene-pathway associations.

That way, genes like SEPT1 and MARCH2 won't be lost from the analysis.
