add travis-ci #28

Add travis-ci to run tests after every commit and report build status in the README. Once merged, the webhook will need to be enabled under User->Accounts at https://travis-ci.org/

Sorry, I converted the README to markdown to get the build status image to show up. Are you ok with converting it to markdown? if so I'll correct the rest of the formatting.

The travis button won't appear till after the first build
