something you have to consider when making a game is how other games are good and what makes them good, for example we all look at deep rock and take inspiration from it in stuff like the perk system. But when doing this you can't just take the entire game and re-make it. I learned this lesson when kingdomez got canceled and I realized that what I was doing was just making a hollow-knight clone. Its good to take inspiration and to see what other games are doing that makes them so fun, but if you just remake another game why bother? Why remake a game and play the remake when you could just play the original which (no offence to Aaron) probably is better than the remake you could make. And in the scope of taking inspiration you also have to take into account what type of game you're making. For example, if you're designing a platform game for example you can't incorporate that many ideas from a fps. On a smaller scale while we this idea is possible to add to tanks, it doesn't fit the scope of the game. Other game modes like defense, juggernaut (rip), FFA, duels, and TDM all fit the scope of "tank goes around and shoots stuff". Creating a whole new game mode that throws out all the mechanics we already have save for the movement system, while it is technically possible you have to ask yourself, just because you could add something, should you?

yea but this would still work, how would it not? there's a scratch game that shows how well a 2d platoon game could work, and we would just be making it work without making a new game entirely
but we'd be throwing out all the other mechanics, I haven't played splatoon so I barely know what I'm talking about but this would be practically making a new game as a game mode for a game not designed for this gamemode
the reason Splatoon is so good (I think) is because its its own game. If it was some random gamemode in cod for example (also haven't played cod) then it would feel out of place. And again while it would be possible to implement in the sense that you paint what you shoot and you paint what you walk on, it wouldn't fit the scope of the game.

the big changes tab is all the changes needed. this would be big, yes, but its to compete with tdm. 2 new block types would be needed, and a few state changes, but that's like it. I'm not saying it wouldn't be hard, but it would rly be worth it

what im trying to say is a splatoon type gamemode wouldn't fit with the rest of the game. All other gamemodes are based around the mechanic of go around and shoot stuff. If we wanted to implement a capture territory gamemode we could add something like capture the flag or king of the hill.

Turf War
When shooting, you change the color of the tiles your bullet crosses and the color of the block it hits. your goal is to make as much of the area into your color before the time ends.
