Could you provide a little more information about the version of OS X, and TeXnicle version you are using?
Thanks,
Martin
OS X version is 10.8.5 running on a MacBook Pro with 2.7 GHz i7 and 16 GB RAM.
TeXnicle Version is "Version 2.2.8 (1416)"
Thanks, Jerry. Did these problems exist in previous versions, or are they new in 2.2.8? I have a new version nearly ready which has had some significant optimisation. Just awaiting another couple of fixes before I push that out.

The problem occured in older versions, too. But it didn't occur so often.
I've tested the new veroin 2.2.9 for a while. But unfortunately the problem still exists. Is there anything I can do to support tracking the problem down?
OK, here’s a useful thing you could try:
0 start TeXnicle 1 open "Activity Monitor.app" 2 select TeXnicle in the process list 3 use TeXnicle until you get one of these hangs, then click the 'Sample Process' button on Activity Monitor 4 send me the output of the sample process
That may give some clues as to where the problem lies.

Hi,
I've attached some of these logfiles. I hope this help.

Hi,
I have the same issue since today and I've been using Texnicle for 1 week. This happens mostly after 10-15min of usage in a file with a lot of nested itemize environment in my case. The problem appears after the first typeset when I do modification and try to scroll or typeset.
I'll try to provide samples with the method you describe.
Best, Julien
Is there anything new? @jpeeters: Do you also use Mountain Lion? Does anybody have the same issue using Mavericks?
I’ve been doing some optimising, and I have a new beta version ready for testing. If you are willing, you could contact me directly by mail.

I am experiencing the same issue on Mavericks (10.9.2) using 2.2.9 (1616), Not sure if i should have submitted another thread. I have a few activity monitor logs that I will send along.
I love the program, and appreciate the hard work!
I updated the program yesterday (to 2.2.9 - although rev no. states 2.2.10, see note below)
Unfortunately, I seem to be having the same issue of freezing and CPU-maxing out occasionally (Mavericks, 10.9.2). It does seem to be less frequent though...
There may be a version number discrepancy.... bobsoft-mac.de (and changelog) shows 2.2.10, but the version I downloaded from the website, as well as the version that my TeXnicle s/w updated to lists as 2.2.9.
I’m uploading a new build now with the correct version number. That was a mistake on my part. Anyway, that’s not going to solve the freezing issue. I need to think some more about that.
Cheers,
Martin

Thanks, Even with the freezing, it’s fantastic software.
I've update to version 2.2.11 (1723). Unfortunately the problem still exists....
@martinhewitson great software (the features), however currently for me unusable as I also have the freezing going on. No CPU maxing (but high CPU ~70%), but the tabs are non responsive anymore. I can help debug this if it helps: http://pastebin.com/pAA5NVfs
Hi: I've heard many good things about the program. But unfortunately I couldn't yet try this for myself because of this freezing out problem. It starts from the very beginning whenever I start the program (happens at every step - even if I want to edit the file). I'm on OSX 10.9.4 and using Texnicle version 2.2.11 (1723). Giving a sample during a freeze out. Thanks in advance for help.
Hi,
I haven’t had any similar reports and it’s difficult to see from the sample what’s going wrong. Before we look deeper, maybe we can try deleting some settings files and then starting TeXnicle again:
\ You maybe want to make a backup of this folder in case you made any custom typesetting engines, or themes. It sounds like you haven’t got that far yet, so maybe this is not necessary.
I assume you are running the latest version from the website, but you might also try this test version which I haven’t released yet but will soon:
http://www.bobsoft-mac.de/resources/TeXnicle/Beta/TeXnicle.app.20140805_1003.zip
The changes in this new version are below.
Let me know how it goes.
Cheers,
Martin

Hello,
Thanks very much for your response. I did all you said (including trying the test version) - but the problem persists. Whenever the program is accessed (even a click on the editor), the CPU shoots up and the program freezes out for a while making it unusable. Will look forward to a solution.
Thanks again, -Partha

Hi Partha,
Some questions to help me figure out what’s happening:
If all that doesn’t help, could you try taking a sample again from Activity Monitor and send me the text rather than a screenshot?
Thanks!
Martin

Hi Martin,
I did a lot of experimentation with an iMac a few days back and I thought I found the key issue (see part I below). But today I was using a Mac mini and the problem appeared in a slightly different way (see part II below). Anyway below I’m discussing my experience in as much detail as possible in case that’s helpful to you.
Part I
To answer your questions: the freezing out continues for a few seconds to 10 secs (or sometimes even longer). After that the system does come out of it, but only to stumble again whenever I try to do something next.
Initially I was using my own latex file that I was already working with - I mean I added that as a new project to TeXnicle and faced that freezing out problem. I also tried creating a new file and the problem persisted as long as the file is big and full of complicated equations. It didn’t occur for a very simple file with a few lines in it. This gave me the clue and I finally figured that it’s originating from syntax checking. If I turn it off in Preference, then the problem goes away completely. When turned on, right after the file is launched the program works fine as long as the editor shows green at top left of the main window. But in a few moments it finds a huge number of syntax errors - for my original file it was more than 3500 complains - and the freezing-out-problem starts. In my file I defined many commands (\newcommands) at the beginning - they worked all fine in all other editors - but TeXnicle complained about most of them. However, I didm’t study these errors any further...
Please find in attachment a sample of this general problem (when syntax checking turned on) - sample-general.txt
Part II
I thought the problem was resolved (at least practically, for me) until I faced it in different manner with a different computer a couple of hours back. I unchecked syntax checking in Preference, but then I wanted to define a new fonts-and-color-profile. The problem started again during this procedure. After the profile is created and I'm back to editing, the problem goes away. I created a new profile in the iMac (Part I) also and I don’t remember having any special problem that time.
I didn’t spend much time with this new occurrence and I’m afraid I’ll be busy with something else and most likely will not use TeXnicle for some time. I attached a sample of this problem too.
Thanks for your great creation, and here’s a small suggestion: if the Preference pane will be resizable, then if I chose a font size bigger than a threshold value, probably the lines of sample texts appearing in the body will not overlap!! Hope I’m not missing something very simple.

TeXnicle seems to freeze for 10-30 seconds with 100% CPU-usage. Restarting TeXnicle seems to solve the problem for a few minutes. Then the problem reappears.
Using copy and paste seems to favour the problem.
