SEPERATED FROM #1 ----------------- @metude : Can it use Opera's search.ini file? So after first installation I can select them and add it to extension. @BS-Harou : @metude the user would have to manually select the file

I don't know capabilities of Opera Link API but, is Opera Link API useless to make this?

Link API enables access to search engines, but how many people actually actively uses link? + I remember I tried once to use the Link API in extension I had some troubles with the oauth mechanism. Not sure if it is worth the time.
