Smaller widget, ideally 2x1 #655

I can't be the only one for whom the 3x2 widget is way too big? Most of the space it takes up is empty, or in other words, wasted.

When using the proprietary launcher on my Moto G6, I can forcibly resize this widget to 2x1, and it looks acceptable. (It would be better if the icon was right of center, but at least it fits.) Screenshot

I would like to offer a (small, but hopefully better than nothing) bounty of US$20.00 if this can be added.

I've been using the 2x1 widget for a while now, is it not working for you? I know it's got a minor bug #341

morninglite commented 2 years ago

Appreciate your response!

I've installed version 1.22 from https://f-droid.org/packages/cz.martykan.forecastie and don't see any 2x1 widget available? The options shown are, from left to right:

  1. Forecastie Cla... 5x2
  2. Forecastie Ext... 5x3
  3. Forecastie Si... 3x2
  4. Forecastie Time 5x2

This is on LineageOS 18.1 with its default Trebuchet launcher.

OK, now I'm really confused. I went back to the other device (aforementioned Moto G6, with vendor firmware and stock launcher), and the third ("Simple?") widget shows up as 2x1 there. The fourth ("Time") widget shows up as 5x1. (I was mistaken when I stated earlier that I forcibly resized it, it turns out this launcher doesn't even support that.)

On my new device (the Moto G7 play, LOS 18.1) these two widgets are 3x2 and 5x2, respectively. The first two widgets are the same (5x2 and 5x3).

Both devices seem to have the same version 1.22 of the same F-Droid package installed...

Any idea what could cause that?

robinpaulson commented 2 years ago

Oh, that's odd. The smallest widget is 2x1, I'm not sure why it's showing as something else.

morninglite commented 2 years ago

Would you mind posting the expected/correct sizes of all four widgets? I'm wondering if all four are wrong, or just this one.

robinpaulson commented 2 years ago

I don't think there is an expected height. Given how Android is now a moving target for default behaviour, I'm not sure how to answer that usefully.
