Hi, Reuben, could you break this pull request up into two different pull requests, one for the build system fix for 0.6.1 and the other for the breaking changes for 0.7.0? I would like to get a working rock and tarball for 0.6.1 up. Thanks.

I've made a new pull request. I don't find the new pull request system easy to use, I think because it intentionally tries to dissuade the use of individual commits as bases for pull requests, but there seem to be some bugs in the UI for it too…
