Set observable element to null while unmounting component #209

This will resolve bug described in #208

The problem came out because React in version 18 is unmounting and remounting elements

Any chance this could be merged? It would really help with upgrading to react 18!

Is there any work that needs doing before this can be merged? This one line is holding recharts (and possibly others) back from React 18.
