Changing the apps language #463

Pitch

There doesn't seem to be a way to change the apps language. Changing it in the account settings works only for the pc site See my post and @ruud answer here: https://mastodon.world/@apschmidt/109454468507001161 Thank you.

Motivation

People living outside their country would be happy to keep their language settings I think.

This should be in the https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon-android repo

The app language matches the system language. If you're using Android 13, you can change the app language independently of the system one.

What about in-app settings?

gunchleoc commented 1 year ago

We definitely need in-app settings for Scottish Gaelic and Welsh as well. Until we have that, only users of LineageOS will be able to access our translation, since Android has locale support, but no language support for us.

grishka commented 1 year ago

Ah, then I shouldn't have added those languages in crowdin in the first place

In-app language setting can't be implemented without ugly hacks that I would like to avoid. Besides, it's a UI change.

No, please do NOT kill my gd translation project!

The language can still be used by LineageOS devices.

Tusky has implemented an in-app language menu, so has Firefox browser. So, this is doable.

I will not, of course.
