Option to sort home timeline on popular posts #15981

Pitch / Motivation

The chronological order of the home timeline is a great Mastodon feature, no bad words about that, but ... there are moments you want to quickly see what's going in your timeline. Hubzilla has an option to sort the timeline on most shared and liked posts. A shared post had more points than a liked posts (I don't know the ratio, but it's easy to find out). Hereby you can see what's popular and mixing it with new posts, you can have best of both worlds.

It's a honest and clear alternative to algorithms like the one from Twitter.

The Filter should be manually configurable and have the following options:

These are the key points from a group discussion at the Fedicamp where we basically had the same idea. It would really help in discussions with people who want the ugly twitter algorithm. And we would really like to use it.

Cool extension would be if you could apply the same filter to hashtag searches.

This is a duplicate of https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/3782

Check out Phanpy, they’ve made a ‘catch up’ feed that does exactly what you’re asking for here. It’s just been released on dev so not a finished product yet, but already works amazingly: https://dev.phanpy.social/#/catchup
