Eye icon is not user friendly #16176

I had difficulties understanding what eye icon does, so I believe, other users experienced the same. I can list three reasons:

  1. The button did visibly nothing, because I was clicking it in the context without CW's and replies.
  2. The description in the tooltip "Show more for all" sounds like proposal to boost the toot for all (which annoyed me even more, as I appreciate mastodon's policy of strictly linear timeline)
  3. I was unable to find anything about this button in documentation.

Pitch

  1. In the contexts where this button does not apply, it should be not visible, or at least obviouslyinactive.
  2. The description should give you an idea, that it is meant for displaying "CW content and replies".
  3. Docs could be improved!

Motivation

Basic user friendliness also means trust, good experiences and lead to growth. I don't really need to write that.

I've been complaining about icons not being good for colour blind people for ages... we'll see

Perhaps one day I’ll be able to commission a custom icon pack for us. I’m not a fan of using font awesome.
