If pinned post and latest post are the same, only display once instead of twice (on user profile) #22961

Pitch

If you've recently pinned a post, it will show up twice on your profile.

It would be great if Mastodon could detect if the pinned post and latest post are the same and if so, only display this content once, instead of twice.

Motivation

If you've recently pinned a post with a social card, it can take up the entire screenspace with the duplicate visual.

The 2nd visual isn't providing anything to the experience and collapsing this into just showing the post once, would be ideal for profile visitors.

I would seriously love this. Have been meaning to write something here about it. It's so strange when you view a profile and see the same post twice.

Yes please.

This is at its worst if you've just pinned several consecutive posts for whatever reason, and adjusted the order in which they're pinned. They appear in the correct order at the top, then out of order immediately below. As well as being confusing and annoying, this can give the impression that you do nothing but keep repeating the same posts.

Tbh, pinned posts should probably be shown only once on the timeline even if it's not the latest post...
