Multiple languages #27

I think it would be interesting to allow for one blog to be in multiple languages, in order for it to reach a wider audience. I build my website with Hugo it has a multi-lingual feature in which there's a toggle at the top of the page that allows the user to read different language versions of the article, which is a better UX when compared to hosting two completely different websites and letting the user try to find the corresponding article on their own.

I am aware that implementing something like this may be against the overall minimal philosophy of mataroa, but I'm struggling to find a solution for having one blog in multiple languages to reach readers that may not speak English. Has anyone else in the community faced this issue and, if so, what did you do to target different languages in your blog. I'm curious to know how others are dealing with this.

Hey Gil!

I think it's super rare for someone to want to have multiple languages on a blog. The reason, I guess, is a blog is not so much informational but mostly opinionated. It's hard and time consuming for one to translate every article in another language, and it's also hard to convey all the nuances that exist in the original language a post was written in.

Indeed, it would be quite unlikely that we would implement this feature.

What is the problem with your Hugo blog, though? Is it not the case that it covers your needs?

I actually don’t use Hugo for blogging but rather for my website. But yeah that’s a good point, I was just wondering if someone else was facing the same dilemma…
