Thanks @mojsior for your suggestion, and sorry for my slow reply. I have been trying it out and I agree that it could be useful as a toggle. I also noticed a couple of other things that could be improved, so here is what I think needs to change:
Decide whether to replace the current feature with a toggle, or add the toggle as another option.
It seems that the resolution could be improved; maybe adding more scanning points would be helpful.
I've also noticed that it doesn't work if there's a higher floor level in front of the player that they could easily step on to—that needs fixing.
I'll continue thinking about 1 (though I'm inclined to simply replace the existing single scan with a toggle) and will work on fixing 2 and 3.
@mojsior I started working on this feature and then realised that, given the lack of fully 3D sound, it would be hard to figure out whether the sweep was going on either in front of, or behind, you. So I wondered about adding in a sound to act as a marker when the sweep passes directly in front of you.
I think that might work, but I ran out of time before the release made today. I do still think this is a good idea and intend to implement it as soon as I can.
If you have any thoughts on these ideas, please let me know, and thanks again for your input.
I will wait for your work and I want to test your improvement.

In order to find where is open space I need to press l key for every step I take, and I see that it doesnt works as it should, because sometimes it wont shows this, when it should be working. I think that l key should works as toggle, if this function is toggled on, a player will always hear when an open space is available.
