Icons on primary screen on dual-head #274

Open samupl opened 10 years ago

samupl commented 10 years ago

Feature request: it would be nice to be able to choose on which desktop will caja render icons. Currently I'm using dual-head with primary monitor on the right, and my desktop icons are on the left screen.

Could you paste screenshot of mate-display-properties configuration?

samupl commented 10 years ago

Sure:

I use

xrandr --output HDMI1 --primary

to set my default screen - for some reason mate-display-properties 'make default' setting does nothing for me, but maybe that's just me having a mess on my archlinux configuration.

stefano-k commented 10 years ago

If I remember 'make default' button requires a folder in /etc/, let me check

Well, I have this file, and there seems to be some content in it. I don't know why I have a feew blocks, in some of them my blocks are empty, but on one there is a primary option.

I'll try to cleanup that file and see if that helps. But is this related to default icon position?

samupl commented 10 years ago

Allright, I did clean monitors.xml file manually, and now the default screen gets selected automatically, I don't have to use xrandr anymore. That's nice.

Now I'm not sure why the monitors.xml file was invalid, I'm using mate quite a while now, perhaps there was a bug earlier that's now fixed, but my monitors.xml file was already corrupt, so it would have to be created again.

I'f you'd like to take a closer look at this in the future, here's my current (manually edited, working monitors.xml file): http://wklej.org/hash/60586816ba4/ and here's the previous version, that I started with: http://wklej.org/hash/ed13be5b85b/

The icons, however, are still on the left monitor, and that's the main subject of this issue ;P

Caja 1.24.0 still has this issue.

Any news about this feature? Having desktop icons on the wrong display is quiet annoying :( Thank you! :)

Any progress?

lukefromdc commented 2 years ago

Can you move icons there manually?

Jorilx commented 7 months ago

@lukefromdc Yes it's possible to move them, but if you do a "Organize desktop by name" everything gets back to the wrong monitor. New icons get created on the wrong monitor, too.

lukefromdc commented 7 months ago

My guess is "organize desktop by name" must automatically put icons on the primary monitor. Most users probably want them there, but most !=all
