[Feature request] Please decouple mate-menu applet shortcut from marco. #675

antoniotrkdz commented 3 years ago

Expected behaviour

To be able to open mate-menu wit shortcut when using alternative window managers (i3, xmonad, dwm, etc.), i.e. without marco.

Actual behaviour

the alt+F1 shortcut doesn't work

Steps to reproduce the behaviour

Use alternative WM instead of marco, ie

gsettings set org.mate.session.required-components windowmanager 'i3'

The only way for the alt+F1 shortcut (or any other key combination with the purpose of opening mate-menu) to work is to use marco

MATE general version

1.20.4

Alt-F1 also opens the menu with compiz-reloaded and mate compatability enabled. Same with alt-F2 so a change here would also require changes at compiz-reloaded and maybe even the 0.9 branch of compiz (if any distro still ships it with MATE)
