Expected behaviour

Notification area works without any problems.

Actual behaviour

CPU overloads up to 100%, notification area is unresponsible, desktop can stuck for 5-40 seconds when trying to open context menu.

Steps to reproduce the behaviour

  1. Install Discord app, register, login, and join to any server
  2. Join to voice room
  3. Talk with short pauses as frequent as you can. It reproduces faster when a lot of talkative people in the room.
  4. After 5-20 minutes notification-area-applet start to overload CPU thread up to 100%.
  5. nottification-area-applet start being unresponsible. Can stuck a whole desktop when trying to open context menu of any application.

Having same issue. Never really noticed this before as i have 16 thread CPU.. so it doesnt really do much in terms of perf loss for me, but yeah, in voicechat when you talk it pulls 1 core to 100%, it looks like its trying to change the icon of discord when you talk. like maybe discord has some icon that changes when you talk like indicating your voice?

how could we debug it to provide more info?

Still an issue here for me. Fedora 40, Mate 1.28.

Is there a way to turn off dynamic icons for one or all icons in the system tray perhaps?
