Screensaver with Pictures folder has overlay of previous image #108

I have 2 PCs running Mint 18 Mate. Both of them have the screen saver configured to use the Pictures folder. A few weeks ago their behaviour changed so that, after each change of picture, a ghostly after-image of the previous picture is overlaid on the new picture. The overlay effect persists until the next transition. The overlay effect also happens in Preview mode, but does not happen in the small images in the Screensaver Preferences dialog. Occasionally a picture or two will be displayed without an overlay, but then the overlays start happening again. My ~/Pictures folder contains mostly Canon RAW (.CR2) and JPEG files, plus a few TIFFs. However, the effect still happens if ~/Pictures contains only JPEGs. I'm not sure exactly when this started happening, but I think noticed it after installing the first of two recent updates to the Imagemagick package (currently have 8:6.8.9.9-7ubuntu5.3) but that may be a coincidence.
