For the lock screen to show local time, that would mean the lock screen having to read user settings unless the timezone was set up system-wide. I know for sure this would be true of the display manager, not sure if this is intentional in the case of the lock screen but there are security advantages to keeping all user content off the lock screen.

Anyone else on the team know what the intended behavior is here?

I use master branch and lockscreen shows my local time. 1.17 on fedora 38.

I finally figured it out. I had to set the time zone in /etc/localtime . Setting time zones in the mate settings was not sufficient.

Still wondering which tool in m-s-d you meant? We have only mate-time-admin which is part of mate-control-center.
