Can't change wallpaper/background #177

Normally, one can right click on the desktop and set a different background image or texture. Since at least far back as May 8, 2017, this has been intermittently impossible. So far it seems that version 1.16.2 of the mate-settings-daemon is causing this. Typing gsettings get org.mate.background picture-filename will return the filename of what should appear. Instead (at least with Debian Stretch), I see the default Debian swirl background.

For reference, see these bug reports: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=862355 http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=132992

As a workaround, feh (https://feh.finalrewind.org/) can be used to manually set the background.

Debian-specific issue. Upgrading mate-desktop to 1.16.2 and caja to 1.16.3 will fix it.

There is no tag matching 1.16.2 for mate-desktop.
