Volume OSD sometimes huge #264

Open phocean opened 5 years ago

phocean commented 5 years ago

Expected behaviour

The OSD volume should have a stable size.

Actual behaviour

Probably resulting with a multiscreen setup, with a 4K screen, the OSD size becomes huge, taking half of screens.

Steps to reproduce the behaviour

Unfortunately, I cannot reproduce it reliably.

MATE general version

1.20.1-2ubuntu1

Package version

mate-settings-daemon 1.20.1-3

Linux Distribution

Ubuntu 18.04

With window-scaling-factor=1 (or 0 which brings up the system default and my 1080X1920 screen) I've never seen this so your suspicion that this is a window scaling issue (double application of scale factor maybe?) is probably correct

I have both a HiDPI laptop hooked to a regular monitor and a regular laptop hooked to a HiDPI monitor (it's out of laziness that I haven't swapped them :P). I've not seen this issue.

This weekend I can try the HiDPI laptop with the HiDPI monitor and see if I can reproduce this issue.

It is hard to reproduce for sure, but I increase the chances by doing a few repeated plug / unplug cycles.

This is the normal size:

00-normal

It may become big:

02-big

Or even bigger:

03-huge

I have not yet found a way to get it back to its normal size.

Note that the brightness OSD is never affected, only the volume applet:

01-normal
