MATE Terminal menu is not shown even if user have checked "Enable the menu shortcut key (F10 by default)" checkbox #397

Expected behaviour

after pressing F10 the File menu is opened, rolled down and active

Actual behaviour

after pressing F10 terminal shows the tilde symbol ("~"), the File menu is not opened

Steps to reproduce the behaviour

  1. Have Ubuntu MATE 21.10 installed
  2. Open MATE Terminal
  3. Select Edit - Keyboard Shortcuts, check "Enable the menu shortcut key (F10 by default)" checkbox, click Close
  4. Press F10

Still happens on latest Ubuntu MATE 22.04 LTS beta.

This is probably a Ubuntu MATE specific bug. Not reproducible on Manjaro MATE (mate v1.26)

Not working on Debian Unstable either (note that I am using a very old libvte to allow copying scrolled back content, but libvte should have no impact on this
