Expected behavior

user-guide translations from ca@valencia language shouldn't break building with itstool-2.0.5

Actual behavior

Building with itstool-2.0.5 breaks building the package

Merge issue of ca@valencia language is probably caused by a xml error in ca@valencia.po file. Means, that needs to be fixed at transifex. Building with older itstool-2.0.2 from fedora 28 doesn't cause the build error For the moment i have disabled the translating help for this language to fix new releases. https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-utils/commit/e57612bbb14206c60b1cd1d9d24e19635bb09725

@rbuj Any idea what gets wrong here?

For building mate-utils at fedora build server i needed to disable pt language too. Here it fails with other archs, eg armv7hl, i686 or ppc64le. Same problem with creating the stamps file.

Yes, these are definitely the same bug. I have created itstool issue #36 and just now I've added a bisection.

I retested it again and i can't reproduce the issue with ca@valencia any more when building master branch for f28/29/30. Should i remove ca@valencia from blacklist? But now mate-utils-1.20.2 fails with pt and language in fedora rawhide (30)

Seems this is a random issue. The merge issue for hu language isn't related. This doesn't break the build in other repos, and i fixed those stupid xml language issues for mate-applets already.

Yes, but this needs to be fixed at transifex for those languages. The Hungary language issue is nearly in every package. I solved that already for mate-applets, but my TODO list is very huge. Any one interested to become admin for Mate at transifex to get access for all languages?

I'm able to build mate-utils-1.20.2 on slackware-current with itstools-2.0.5 here

It happened again today and bugreporting tool created a alarm. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1677838 This was on fedora rawhide, here the abrt tool is very sensible at this time.

Most translator-credits don't follow the translation rule:

Put one translator per line, in the form NAME <EMAIL>, YEAR1, YEAR2

For building mate-utils-1.22 at koji build server i had to disable pt language. https://src.fedoraproject.org/cgit/rpms/mate-utils.git/commit/?h=f30&id=b3abab96d839835b3ec26cb37c4550f1eb53eec5 After that build was successfully for all archs today https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=33180867 Sadly, the fix was to late for the fedora 30 beta freeze today. I hope mate-utils-1.22.x will work with MATE 1.22.

Looks like you found more issues, but build fails always with pt language. For this reason i compared it with pt_br which builds fine.

I am experiencing this when building 1.26.1 on NixOS (build log), sounds like 1.26.1 already have that pt trans string dropped. The failure is a flaky (random?) one for us.

Right now we are giving the debian patch some try so far it seems to work (well since the original failure is quite random for us we cannot promise anything :upside_down_face:).

This is still going on, I have to build with --disable-nls which is fine for my own use but if I put the package on archive.org it's not useful outside english-speaking areas. This is the error I am getting:

I have itstool from Debian and don't know enough about it to work on it. Hopefully one of these will be merged, until then I will build with --disable-nls

You only need to rebuild debian itstools package with the commit from PR. I guess you have more knowledge from debian package building than me :-) I did that 3/4 of a year ago for a company but honestly i need to search again in the net for hints to build a debian package. Any way, i hope this patch will be merged in itstools.

I do very, very little building of Debian's divided-up packages and do NOT know how to build from Debian's scripts after modifying source code, which fails their integrity checks. All my .deb files are single source package ->single .deb package built with checkinstall or packed by setting an install path to a directory for meson. I have never sucessfully built using Debian's scripts with modified source. Thus I will have to wait for the patch unless I want to introduce more manual package handling to the next few updates

Just to weigh in here with my findings.

Using itstool-2.0.7 on a Gentoo system we are finding with 1.26.1:

GCC13 and 14 compiles fine with no issue. LLVM17 is causing the error reported.

When testing with 1.27.0 there is no issue at all which is slightly strange at the moment as it has thrown me off wondering if https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-utils/commit/fa260785b46bd2734f6d08d765c6af602e082a03 was the commit that solved it as a first glance of the issue.

We are tracking this at https://bugs.gentoo.org/920530 however I will make sure to share anything of interest that our users report.
