Pluma 1.24.0 can't switch Display line numbers on #631

Expected behaviour

Clicking Display line numbers should just enable the line numbers count

Actual behaviour

Line numbers flash for a second and then dissapear although checkbox remains ticked

I cannot duplicate this on Pluma 1.26.0 and never noticed this on any 1.24 or 1.25 development version either. Using locally compiled MATE (now 1.26 and some from later git master) over Debian Unstable with locally built GTK 3.24.24 and glib 2.69.0(2.69.3 was buggy/delayed caja startup)
