One workaround is a deliberate search for gibberish you know won't be found.

Thanks. Is there coherent development plan for Pluma? This feature works in Xed, the even less-able step-brother. What a mess.
There is a general roadmap for the whole DE on the wiki, but be advised we are a small team with zero paid staff.

Expected behaviour
Some means to hide the highlighted text after a search
Actual behaviour
text remains highlighted after closing the search dialog
Steps to reproduce the behaviour
Highlight a given word, tap on Ctrl+f, and paste the word in the search dialog, click on find. This highlights all occurrences, after closing dialog.
