Internal GPS on BlackBerry #41

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
user report:

Blackberry allows to disable (/stop/shutdown or whatever) GPS completely.
The first time I opened the application, I selected the intern GPS. After
that I closed the application as I had no cartrigde yet.
Whenever I do enable GPS before calling OpenWIG, there is no problem with
the application. (And I'm soooo happy about that!!!! I must try out the
cartrigde today after work... even if it's very late than).
But whenever I forgot to enable it (which was what happened), I'm getting
the NullPointerException. I'm only a little bit confused that the program
stored the configuration, while I hadn't activated the GPS yet.

matejcik, I just downloaded your latest build and it let me launch the
application. I selected the internal GPS in the options, closed the app and
launched it again. I get error java.lang.NullPointerExecption (null) at
internal. I am using a Blackberry Tour running OS 5.0

aww, i'm not too successful at fixing those bugs lately, now am i?

so - do you get to the openwig main menu, even with this error? what does the
menu title say? it should show revision number.
do you see the same result when you delete the app and reinstall it?

I too can launch the app, go to Options and select internal gps. When I close
the application and re-open I get java.lang.NullPointerExecption (null) at
internal. the only way out of this is to reboot the phone and re-install the
app.

hi folks,
turns out that the problem is that i need to get my application signed by RIM
in order to use the internal gps.

with that in mind, i'm setting priority to low - the signing keys are cheap,
fortunately, but i have no idea where to even start with the signing process.
i'd probably have to convert the .jar to some BB-native format, get the keys,
install the windows-based development environment, etc etc.

let me put it this way: if any of you know a person who did at some point
develop BlackBerry applications, let them know about this problem and they can
probably fix this for you better than I can

otherwise, i'll get to it when i have enough free time on my hands again

I am trying to use an external GPS through bluetooth, it doesn't appear as an
option, nor does the internal GPS. Then I close and get this same error.

Hi Matejcik,
I just received a Bold 9700 from my boss (so he can reach me by mail all the
time...) and am trying out OpenWig right now. I can use my internal GPS without
problems and after restarting I don't get the nullpointer exception. I only
have to confirm many annoying permissions opening a cartridge, but for the rest
it works quite well. I did the Wherigo tutorial succesfully and will do a real
one soon I hope.
Thanks,
Paul
