In a modded context, shader performance can very rapidly decline when viewing some modded materials. This effect is very noticeable when looking at Large Water Wheels from the Create mod.
Steps to reproduce the behavior:
Enter a world with the Create mod.
Look at a not-so-significant quantity of Large Water Wheels, the effect starts being noticeable at two.
I would not expect performance to degrade in this manner.
