The one thing I'm noticing is that you're using an absolutely ancient version of blender and it could be that I'm trying to use functions that didn't exist back then (I know that some other parts of it definitely do, and I don't officially support anything before 3.6). Can you try with a new release of blender? If you still get the same issue then something's definitely wrong.
Oh, yup, it works in the latest update, thank you! I mainly work on vrchat and sims cc, and those both use a lot of blender 2.8 specifically because a lot of the community tools are stuck on those versions atm if you were thinking about backporting it, 2.83 is what most people use for those systems and it would be extremely useful for those communities, you could prob post about this in those subreddits and get hella traction
I think i'm just missing/misunderstanding parts of the instructions, but i've watched the tutorial video back through a few times and I'm still confused should the UDIMs be autopopulating from the collection? or be able to be selected from the scene collections viewport or something?
Nope, the UDIMs are created and assigned manually
when i try to add the addon (in the normal way of putting the python folder into the blender addon folder) it just gives me this error and wont even add it to the project. i would really love this addon!
