Improve consistency of English strings in Matomo using ChatGPT AI #21670

Context: We've noticed some inconsistencies in the English strings used across the Matomo application and plugins. This ranges from varied terminology, capitalisation of words, to differences in British English spelling and grammatical structures etc.

Some community members even have helped improve this over the years via PRs, and there are some PRs still opened eg. https://github.com/matomo-org/matomo/pull/19469, https://github.com/matomo-org/matomo/pull/19467, https://github.com/matomo-org/matomo/pull/19437, https://github.com/matomo-org/matomo/pull/19307

As we aim for excellence in every aspect of Matomo, it's essential to address these inconsistencies to ensure a seamless and professional user experience.

Proposed Solution: I propose we use ChatGPT AI, which conveniently processes JSON files, to automate the identification and correction of these inconsistencies. This approach not only promises efficiency but also a high level of accuracy in standardising our English strings.

Goals:

  1. AI-Assisted Review and Standardisation: Run all English strings through ChatGPT AI to spot and rectify inconsistencies. The focus will be on unifying our language use, particularly in terms of British English spelling, terminology, and grammar.

  2. Extending to Plugins: Once we've streamlined the app's core language, the same principles and scripts will be applied to our plugins, ensuring uniformity across the entire Matomo ecosystem.

  3. Implementation and Review: After integrating the changes, we'll do a comprehensive review. This step is crucial to make sure our efforts enhance user experience and maintain the integrity of the Matomo platform.

Expected Outcome:

A more coherent, professional, and user-friendly language experience across all Matomo interfaces. This sets the stage for our next big step: leveraging AI to enhance our translations across different languages (those that AI can speak well).

Next Steps:

Once we've established a solid English base, we'll look into using AI more extensively for translation improvements, taking our global accessibility to the next level.

Hoping that doesn't sub-license anything to ChatGPT.

Very eager to help continue picking the desired outcomes for what is currently an incomplete change-around. It would also help to update the Weblate glossary at the same time. I am not a WL admin for Matomo, so I can't for example add screenshots on Weblate for stuff that is reasonably soild (this can also be fully automated). Tests could also be added to prevent inclusion of non-desired variants.
