30 days activity

enigma9o7 commented 1 year ago

Before I even get into why I'm posting here in the first place, I must report that I had to check I was active in the room in the past 30 days to be able to continue and post. This is a lie, it's closer to a year. But it seemed like I couldn't post without checking that box. So please fix this so one can post a message without checking the box, otherwise the box is meaningless if we're forced to check it just to post a message. Realize not everyone cares enough to follow up right away, I figured the block would go away by itself eventually, so didn't follow up - nor was it easy to find HOW to follow up anyway. I woulda been more accepting of the opposite, don't let people post until it's been at least 30 days, since odds are they got kicked out for a reason, and 30 days is probably the right amount of time to "punish" them.

The actual point of this issue - a year or so ago, I can't remember exactly, I annoyed an element developer. If I recall correctly, I was arguing that users should be able to whois irc users if using element as an irc client. They disagreed, kicked me out of the matrix element channel we were talking in, and a few other random matrix channels, and EVERY libera channel I was in, and made it so I can't join ANY libera channels without immediately being kicked out. I imagine I was acting like an arrogant ass and wasn't polite during our discussion, probably swore and name called (nothing hate-speech) or some other inappropriate behavior but forget the details, but whatever it was, I feel it has certainly been long enough "punishment".

Back to my meaningless rant, the 30-day or less requirement to post is pretty dumb imo - what is the logic here? People who don't go to the effort of posting an issue within 30 days ..... what? I don't get it? Don't deserve to be able to get back in? Or was it supposed to automatically fix itself in 30 days and something went wrong, but you don't wanna hear about it when that happens? I really don't get it. The question just seems irrelevant in the first place, but if it affects the way you look up users, sure its an okay question ,but yes/no shouldn't block people from posting!

You're kidding me, right? Do I really need to explain this to you?

That link you offer presents four options. One of them fit the issue I wanted to report perfectly. I didn't have to look at the small print for other options. The problem comes AFTER one selects "I'm kicked out of rooms regularly", so that other small-print option you suggest is long gone by then anyway.

Just fix it so people can continue whether they check the 30-day box or not, unless you don't want people who haven't been able to be active for 30 days to be able to post at all. Nobody's gunna back up and find that weird option, they're just gunna check the box anyway in order to move forward, like I did, and think to themselves "this is broken, if i don't check the box I can't even continue, these guys are idiots!"

And wouldn't you prefer people waited 30 days before posting anyway?! It seems the logic is backwards in the first place. If it was they other way, one could just wait and then post later. But the way it is now, after 30 days you can't post at all? Makes no sense. Don't even ask the question if you won't accept the answer!

Anyway, joining a room counts as activity, so you don't have to make a big deal out of it.

Hey, thanks for the report.

It sounds like you're banned through matrix.org's code of conduct which the bridge monitors.

If you'd like to appeal, please email abuse@matrix.org

Thats the point. I haven't been able to join any libera rooms, I'm immediately kick out before any activity is possible, and this happens regularly, on any libera channel. I'm making a big deal about it for future people, cuz the logic is backwards. If anything, it should require no activity for 30 days before allowing to post, if t here's some 30 day requirement, to make sure it doesnt' resolve itself or its a temporary problem. After 30 days of no activity seems like a reasonable time to complain. I waited over a year myself....

Am I not right that the logic is completely backwards?

At a minimum, it needs to be fixed to allow to post whether checking the box or not, otherwise its a pointless question.

Tried that, no response. Please reopen this, I didn't close it, and it's not resolved. If you closed it cuz you fixed the 30-day question, great, but that's not my actual issue, my actual issue is I'm kicked out of rooms regularly, and that is still happening.

enigma9o7 commented 1 year ago

Any update? No response from abuse@matrix.org, still kicked out of rooms regularly. Please resolve. I dunno how to reopen this, it shouldn't have been closed.

enigma9o7 commented 1 year ago

Still no response from abuse@matrix.org, still kicked out of rooms regularly. Please resolve. And keep this issue opened til its resolved, I dunno how to unclose it, but it shouldnt be closed. Writing email is not the correct solution because it doesn't work, no response, even on 2nd attempt.

Still no response from abuse@matrix.org, as of today, still kicked out of rooms regularly. Please resolve. And keep this issue opened til its resolved, I dunno how to unclose it, but it shouldnt be closed. Writing email is not the correct solution because it doesn't work, no response, even on 2nd attempt. Should I try a third time? I think for now I'll post here cuz at least someone is looking.
