@appservice-irc:matrix.org not responsive #1210

Open slondr opened 3 years ago

slondr commented 3 years ago

Describe the bug appservice hasn't responded to any of my messages in quite a few weeks. I can no longer access IRC using my registered username as a result, because it's keeping a connection to freenode alive without allowing me to quit it To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Send a message to appservice or any person on freenode such as nickserver
  2. Never get a response

Expected behavior Get a response

Desktop (please complete the following information):

Additional context This is the same issue as https://github.com/matrix-org/matrix-appservice-irc/issues/555, which afaik was never fixed but closed anyway

I'm trying to contact you via Matrix to ask questions specific to rooms you're in. My Matrix ID is @christianp:vector.modular.im.

@slondr would you be able to try again so that I can trace this in the logs?

slondr commented 3 years ago

@Half-Shot I just sent the appservice a few more messages (still with no response). Does that help?

So I found this ticket after searching for the issue tittle.

Im trying to plumb in freenode.net #channelname via add bridge, widgets and bots in the target #roomname:matrix.org

Ive filled in the details after choosing freenode from drop down. the target op nick is online at freenode and opped.

Result, @appservice-irc:matrix.org in invited to the room but never joins.

I also tried direct message with @appservice-irc:matrix.org, it joins the private room but does not respond to any commands.

Looking at https://matrix-org.github.io/matrix-appservice-irc/latest/admin_room.html#help nothing happens...

Please advise.

I'm not sure if this issue is still valid as reported considering most projects have moved to Libera.

For what it's worth this was never resolved—my matrix account provider (privacytools.io) has since deleted their matrix service.

I'm not sure if this issue is still valid as reported considering most projects have moved to Libera.

No matter what most projects have done or even personal feelings (not that I'm implying either), freenode is still a valid IRC network despite their SASL only login method and perhaps nick registration quirks have now seemingly look like here to stay.

We will see what happens, but bridges not doing what they set out to do is a valid bug, at least for my side. Though Im OK if someone were to feel free to split my added me too report into a new report and close this one, if the reporter of issue matters,

Im willing to submit logs from my attempts and link to this bug report if that helps.

Im using Element web via FF browser.

Thanks and be well.

I would like to add a screenshot of my latest attempt.

Capture

The existing integration is to another IRC network. No issues there.

The user is opped and exists as a registered freenode nick on target channel.

I have submitted logs from my account linking this issue.
