sounds like https://github.com/matrix-org/matrix.org/issues/43. Not a synapse issue anyway
@richvdh that why I said "sorry that I divert the github issue tracker from its intended use" ;) anyway thx a lot for linking to this request to an existing one. 👍
Dear Matrix team,
at first: sorry that I divert the github issue tracker from its intended use but the reason that I have to to request this via github is part of my request:
Coming from XMPP (Prosody) I'm really fascinated using Synapse because server setup is quite uncomplicated in comparison to XMPP. But what I really miss is a community support forum.
Is there any official matrix support forum which I maybe just didn't find?
If not: would you consider one based on Discourse?
Reasons for requesting this:
My first home server project was a home cloud based on Seafile. Without https://forum.seafile.com/ I doubt that I could manage the software setup. Even with a quite detailled manual like you provide for Matrix some tutorials are maybe a little bit unclear especially for beginners.
You might say now "Why don't you just ask for help in #matrix:matrix.org?". I tried this several times but as far as I experienced a chat channel is not the best way for "after-work admins" like me because:
1) Idling around in a chat waiting for help can be really exhausting. 2) In forum one could just describe a problem and could go sleeping which is something different than using mail notification function within riot because: 3) A modern forum would suggest you topics with a similar content when you start to write a new thread. Which means in addition: 4) A forum would already given answers would be much better accessible for new people (no account needed to read). Which means as well: 5) Less unnecessary questions from beginners.
Because I'm not a coder I would offer my help to administrate a forum.matrix.org .
Best regards and thank you so much for Matrix! saljut7
