Disable check for updates #771

How do I disable xbar checking for updates?

I've installed via brew, and I update it via brew. I don't want xbar to check for updates, and I really don't want it interrupting me every day to tell me an update is available. Is there a way to turn the whole update-checking-and-automatic-updating subsystem off completely? (I've looked and failed to find any way of doing this.)

There's the "update automatically" button in the plugin preferences submenu (xbar dropdown), should be able to toggle it on and off from there.

I think you're missing the issue.

I don't want to update automatically. I want - as the title says - to disable the check for updates.

I already have a process for installing updates. I use brew. I choose when to run brew and update software. I don't want software to automatically install without me deliberately choosing to do so, and I don't want software nagging me every day if I haven't chosen to do so.

While I 100% agree with you @OpinionatedGeek, and find pending updates that interrupt the thing I actually want to do with a program before I can do it just as infuriating as you probably do, I think the culture is changing around us, such that (automatic) updates are the expectation.

Edit: especially with Apple operating systems.
