xbar not starting on macOS Ventura #863

Open morremeyer opened 2 years ago

morremeyer commented 2 years ago

I just did a fresh install with brew, running version 2.1.7-beta on macOS Ventura 13.0.1.

When I start xbar, it asks for the Automation -> System Events permissions, but nothing else apparently happens: No app window opening, nothing in the status bar.

There's three processes running for xbar, visible in the Activity Monitor:

Running it in the Terminal shows

❯ ./xbar
xbar v2.1.7-beta
2022/11/29 11:28:40 checking for updates... (current: v2.1.7-beta)
2022/11/29 11:28:40 updates: passive true
2022/11/29 11:28:40 updates: AutoUpdate false
2022/11/29 11:28:41 update: you have the latest version

Any help with this or info how I can further debug this is appreciated.

Any update here? I have a Macbook Pro 14" M1 2021 - there it works on Ventura 13.2. Now I'm on a Macbook Pro 16" M1 2021 - there it's not working. Please help. This tools is so amazing. Thank you

I had same problem, in my case it appears that osx decided there is not enough space left in tray (but it was visually enough) and wasn't displaying the icon. After closing half of apps with tray icons, xbar finally appeared in tray.

morremeyer commented 1 year ago

I'm not sure what changed it in my case, but it starts without any issues now.

As noted by @bazuchan, it might have been my full tray the whole time.

Closing since I can't reproduce this anymore.

kangaroo72 commented 1 year ago

For me, it's not working with more than enough space - can you please reopen or should I create a new issue?

morremeyer commented 1 year ago

Reopen as per https://github.com/matryer/xbar/issues/863#issuecomment-1422622240

I think, there's not really a solution. I will try a dowgrade to Monterey.

j0k3r commented 1 year ago

I'm using Ventura 13.2.1 (22D68) and I don't have any problems on running xbar installed from homebrew.

kangaroo72 commented 1 year ago

Which book? For me it's working on Macbook Pro M1 14", but not on M1 16". I downgraded my 16" to Monterey to get it working.

j0k3r commented 1 year ago

Oh sorry didn't see your first reply. I'm not using a M1 nor M2, I'm still on Intel ship, sorry 😕

kangaroo72 commented 1 year ago

Still no progress? I'm afraid, this issue will never be fixed, due a missing 16" Macbook :-( I can test a fix, when available, but sadly I'm not a dev to code it myself.

Interesting update: Today I installed a second Monterey to a USB-C-Device on my 16"-Macbook Pro (M1 2021). After that, I upgraded to the latest Ventura-Version. Xbar worked on that System!! - No update since error report, but it works - maybe a change in Ventura?! I will update my macOS, once I made a backup...

Hmm... So weird.

kangaroo72 commented 1 year ago

Now I can cofirm, that xbar is working on my 16" MBP (2021) native on Ventura 13.5.1. I cannot explain - there was no change / update from xbar. Maybe the fix came with a newer Ventura-Release. Is there also anybody with the same hardware and can confirm??
