Venue/Dates #1

These two are related, so one issue for it.

Venue

A few options we've already discussed:

We've been here for Code Retreat before. @JCake put out feelers for this event. They need to bring up the idea in a department meeting and said if it gets approval, they can't host prior to September.

Mahoney

Nice open venue. Andy Peters mentioned party rooms which also allow alcohol, so we could get kegs & do a proper Beer && Code if we wanted. Not sure how wifi, projectors, etc would work. Maybe someone has a better idea than me.

PKI

Generally we can get space there - @mkolakow should have the hook-ups.

Dates

Dependant on lots of things. I think late summer (August/September) would be nice. Any events conflicting around then? Does Barcamp 2013 have a date?

-blink- github lets me Edit YOUR comments? and versions them? cool! :)

NFJS is August 2 - 4.

nwertzberger commented 11 years ago

Whatever the venue, tables are a must. Air conditioning is probably also something that should go with said tables, especially in August. These thoughts make me shy away from Mahoney, unless there are some really great rooms there with lots of tables in the main lodge.

If considering a state park, think about Platte River. It is close to Mahoney but smaller, way less traffic and they have a nice "party barn", or used to at least. Reservations are usually easier there too.

Plus I think it's a prettier park, but that's just me.

+1 for Platte River and Mahoney state parks.

Random Mahoney info: they rent out conference rooms in the (air-conditioned) main lodge. Getting a cabin or a hotel-esque room in the lodge on a weekend usually needs to be done many months in advance.

Perusing Platte River's website, the Mallet Lodge has Wi-Fi, space for 125 people, and a kitchen.

I've not been there (or Mahoney for that matter), but maybe others have experience renting out the lodge?

Mallet Lodge

@jmhobbs that looks rad.

i don't think barcamp has a date, but its usually around sept.

I spoke with folks at Platte River. The gist:

jhannah commented 11 years ago

No pets? Weird. I walk my dogs there all the time. I've never toured Mallet Lodge, I'd be up for a road trip if anyone wants to check it out with me.

mattdsteele commented 11 years ago

Sorry, I meant no pets inside the lodge.

Oh! laugh ... I thought maybe they had a rental policy to stop 300 dog owners from all shitting up the place all at once or something. ;)

andypeters commented 11 years ago

bummer too cause i'm sure @jhannah was going to show how effective pair programming is with his dogs.

mattdsteele commented 11 years ago

We're shooting for Mallet Lodge on 9/14.

mattdsteele commented 11 years ago

I reached out to Dusty Davidson and and he says Barcamp doesn't yet have a date planned, so 9/14 is good to go. I'll reserve the lodge.
