No matter what value you specify for -r or --root, it will return OK (e.g -r /root and --root /root) as far as the directory or file specified exists.
Checked version 1.16.1 and SVN.
Please investigate.

I am not able to reproduce the problem. Could you please post an example of what are you trying? Which OS are you using?
