Feature Idea: Retrospective / Quadrant View #3128

Open michaelgamble opened 2 years ago

michaelgamble commented 2 years ago

Summary

I found we've been using other tools for these retrospective / quadrant view, and realized that this would be a perfect use case for boards.. if each quadrant could be like the current kanban, where you can add items, order them, and drag and drop them into quadrants.. board cards would be perfect.

The things that makes boards more powerful then other tools in my opinion is four fold:

  1. being able to have a continued conversation on a card
  2. being able to create multiple views for taking action on items as outcomes of the retrospective
  3. being able to have integration for the sake of cross posting
  4. the power of being able to replicate the card into other boards (coming in that future feature)

How important this is to me and why

Importance: High/Medium/Low

Use cases:

  1. Retrospective quadrants
  2. market fit quadrants
  3. magic quadrants
  4. the list goes on and on...

Additional context/similar features

Right now we use figjam for retrospectives, but the usefulness of it ends because the follow up needs to happen outside of that ecosystem.. in our case inside the MM ecosystem.

There was alot of intersest in this feature in the "Focalboard (internal)" team channel.. the TLDR of some of the feedback was:

This would also be great for creating a Eisenhower Decision Matrix view of tasks, though I would maybe suggest rather than purely a Quadrant View, make it grid based?

That way the user can better customise their layouts in a simple way, whether it's using the grid to make quadrants, or say, have six categories in 3x2 zones.
