Mattermost Desktop Version

5.10.0-rc3

Operating System

Windows 11 x64

Mattermost Server Version

No response

Steps to reproduce

I can never see I have new unread messages in the tray.

image

I am not particularly color blind but the "tray dot" is very small and blue, green, red are used as dots. Green/Red on such a small icon is invisible to me. The screenshot here is around x2 size of original icon.

Expected behavior

Better visibility of number of unread messages via some of the following:

Add option (my preference, as task bar icons can be very large and already have a number)

Better tray icon that is not using colors, for example: image

There are more things to consider, I am just giving some suggestions.

Observed behavior

This depends on screen resolution, theme etc, obviously. On dark theme, I can't even see the MM tray icon.

image

I have to keep the MM on the task bar so I can see the number of messages easily. This requires for me to use minimize, however, I click close by accident most of the time.

To prevent this, I am launching MM via script that converts close button to minimize.

Additional Information

Its very important that messaging platform provide good options for pending message visibility.

This is more of a UX feedback than a bug. If you're looking to give UX feedback we have a channel for that on our community server here: https://community.mattermost.com/core/channels/ux-design

Closing this as UX feedback.
